COMMISSIONS!
Have you always wanted to commission me to do a mosaic just for you, but didn’t know how to begin….
Follow along to see my process….
First together we choose a previous image that I already created so that we are both on the same page.
Here you can see the image in my hand-welded frame. Out of 1 sheet of glass I cut out the background. It almost looks like marble. This is a stained glass technique that I use. And then, I started working on the antique metal chain detail.
I send progress pictures to all of my clients so they can go along with me on my creative journey and help make decisions during the entire process.
Of course you get to pick all the materials from my huge collection of discarded treasures, too much fun! This client chose a neutral palette. We went with this brown calico china plate for the hat, and shades of brown glass for the shirt.
I sent this picture to my client who bought this piece, and I might have scared her a bit…. It does look quite messy! No worries, it cleans up nicely, filling in the cracks that are created with intent, knowing that the grout will give this piece warmth and character.
She is coming along nicely, and the client is so happy! The skin on my cowgirls are always mosaicked out of smalti, a traditional compressed glass material that they use to mosaic churches in Italy & Mexico. I like to incorporate a traditional mosaic feel in my work.
The lips are in smalti too, always grouted in red. The lips are what gives this series a strong feminine energy.
And here we are picking out Chanel findings for the hair, one of my very favorite parts! I bought out the blanks from Chanel, yes the famous designer, to use in my mosaics. Growing up in the 60’s, it is reminisce of the hippy hair styles my mom use to create for me and my sister.
Viola’ KAITLYN enjoying her new home in Nashville, thank you Carrie!
